One of the most common questions our Huddersfield customers ask is: "Can my puncture be repaired, or do I need a new tyre?" The answer depends on the location and size of the damage, and our technicians will always give you an honest assessment on arrival.
A puncture can be safely repaired if: the damage is in the central three-quarters of the tread area (not the sidewall or shoulder), the hole is no larger than 6mm in diameter, and the tyre has not been run flat for any significant distance. British Standard BS AU 159 defines the safe repair zone.
A puncture cannot be repaired if: the damage is to the sidewall or shoulder of the tyre, the tyre has been driven flat (which can cause internal structural damage invisible from the outside), the hole is too large, or there are multiple punctures close together.
Run-flat tyres are generally not repairable and require full replacement when punctured, as the internal support structure may be damaged even if the tyre looks visually intact.
Our approach is always honest: if a tyre can safely and legally be repaired, we will repair it. We never push unnecessary tyre sales. A proper puncture repair — using a combination patch-plug applied from the inside — costs around £20 and should last the remaining life of the tyre.
If a replacement is needed, we carry a full range of options and can fit a new tyre on the spot. We will also safely dispose of the damaged tyre. All work comes with a full fitting guarantee.
